Melted Winged Prayer

Spahn Ranch 1997
Last weekend thanks to the overzealous planning of evildork, I was able to go to the Hollywood Bowl for “Sgt. Pepper’s at 40…a Beatles Celebration featuring Cheap Trick”. You can read my review of the show at LAist. For me the highlight of the show was when Al Jourgensen from Ministry came out on stage. It just got me remembering my high school and early college days, the music, the tragically lack of color in my wardrobe and all. Well mostly the music since I spent most of Sunday going through my music collection listening to all the industrial and EBM my body can handle at this not-so-advanced age. I hit gold with this little band called Spahn Ranch. They had such nifty songs like “Locusts” and “Heretic’s Fork” that made me swoon with dreams of apocalyptic romance. The sound was very electronic with a little guitar added in to give it an extra oomph – the way I liked things back then. So I present to you a grainy video for their song “Locusts”. It’s the edited version but good nonetheless.
A noteworthy thing I also recently learned: there’s an American Idol connection with Spahn Ranch. Lead singer Athan Maroulis is the older brother of AI contestant Constatine Maroulis.
