Dear Friends and Strangers
Over the past couple years, I have been debating whether to run for political office. Although it’s a little late now, I have been mulling about running for Congress in 2004 to oust my pro-business Democratic representative Jane Harman. Because of the relative costs of running a campaign and relative impossibility of winning, I have decided not to run in 2004.
However, something has come up. As most of you know by now, the Secretary of the State of California just certified that there were enough valid signatures to hold a recall election of Governor Gray Davis. I have been staunchly opposed to this move and contend we in the state of California have been through worse financially (see Pete Wilson and Ronald Reagan). But since it looks like it is happenning, I see an opportunity to get a stronger leader in Sacramento.
This is why I am formally announcing my campaign to be the next Governor of California. It is still not official; I still have to get signatures and fill out my intent to run. But friends, let me assure you my name will be on the ballot for the recall election.
In the next few days, I will release my campaign platform for all to see. It is time we stand up for peace and equality for all, not just for the rich. I hope to get enough of your support in the coming weeks and months.
